📍 From Vietnam: This story is part of our worldwide collection of real-life stories.
I sat cross-legged on a bamboo settee outside a beach hut in Vietnam. The trip was meant to be the beginning of an epic adventure, travelling across countries, experiencing new cultures, and stepping into a new chapter of life.
But, instead of sunlit days on the beach, or meeting locals in the village, I got grey clouds and pouring rain. Days and days and days of it. The kind of drenching that comes with a typhoon. Even the walkways flooded.
Everything I touched felt as damp as a sopping wet towel. The bed, the mats and cushions I sat upon that day. The place reeked a musky smell. Heavy disappointment settled on my shoulders.
I picked up a pen and poured my feelings onto the page. As the sky cried, I did too.
Finding Light in a Raindrop
Then I looked up.
A thin stream of light had broken through the clouds and settled on a raindrop resting on a leaf. Just one. The leaf swayed gently to the pitta patta of rain, and the drop caught the light, glistening, so pretty.
I sat mesmerised.
If I stayed still long enough, if I looked closely enough, I might discover a whole new world inside that raindrop.
If I stayed still long enough, if I looked closely enough, I might discover a whole new world inside that raindrop.
And then it occurred to me: without the dark grey sky, without being confined to that hut in a rainy season, I would never have sat still long enough to experience the beauty in that moment. The clouds hadn't stolen the light. They had hidden it somewhere for me to find.
That why we created this Story Journey...
Finding Light in Dark Seasons
Perhaps you know what it's like to be stuck in the grey. Maybe it's a relationship that weighs on you, a worry that follows you into sleep, a version of your life that doesn't look anything like the one you'd planned. Maybe it's a sadness you can't quite name, or a long season where the days feel heavier than they should.
Sometimes those clouds pass quickly. Other times they settle in like a long winter with no spring in sight, and it can start to feel as if you're living a story that was never really your own.
In this 7-Day story journey, you'll walk alongside seven storytellers from different corners of the world, each of them living through their own version of that dark sky. And each of them, in their own way, found light within it. They don’t pretend the dark doesn’t exist. They just open their lens long enough to catch the light.
Together, on this Story Journey, we will find the light that lives in the clouds we carry. The light within you. The light of others. The light that shines upon our path so we can take another step forward.
You don't need the clouds to clear first. The light is already there.
Let's go and find it.
