Phyllis shared her story on Daily Inspired Life:
Arlene by PK Becker | When being there for someone is all we can do | Inspiring Story #95

After sharing a deeply personal tribute to her friend on Daily Inspired Life, Phyllis discovered how storytelling can help carry memories forward and connect people through grief.

What began as a desire to honour someone she loved became something more meaningful, as readers responded with understanding and compassion for a kind of loss that often goes unseen.

In this interview, Phyllis reflects on what happened after her story was published, the comfort she found through writing, and why she believes stories can help others feel less alone in difficult seasons of life.

About the Storyteller

Phyllis Becker has been accused of being "Hallmarky" or a Polyanna. It's because she looks for the good in people and situations, encouraging others to see the silver linings.

Phyllis lives in the center of Israel, teaching English. She runs a service providing help to all ages in all situations. Her group is called, "Grannies on Demand". Her team does anything needed from driving kids, feeding the cat, to helping the elderly and ill.

This is what happened when Phyllis shared her story ...

What Happened After Sharing Her Story

How did you feel when you were first invited to share your story?

I was moved by the idea that I could tell my friend's story and share the memories.

Describe any personal benefits sharing your story has brought you:

I feel she would have liked it but keep rethinking and imagining her comments, self- criticizing if I could have said it better.

What was the greatest challenge you had sharing your story?

I felt like it wasn't tribute enough.

Were you helped in any way by the process the DIL team used to help you develop your story?

Karletta's encouragement and vision were extremely helpful.

Did sharing help you understand yourself more deeply?  What were your greatest lessons?

I actually wrote about the items I have and treasure, in case something happens to me, so my kids can know and also keep or let things go.

Did you enjoy the response you received from others in relation to your story?  How So?

I know that so many people are losing loved ones. The families have their support but friends suffer loss and often grieve unnoticed and alone. The responses show that others understand.

Did sharing your story have an impact on others in any way?

Within my circle of friends, it was really appreciated.

Would you recommend others share their story?

As a writer, we never realize the impact our stories may have on others. If someone can relate and it speaks to them, it is huge.

Anything else?

Karletta is warm, wise and compassionate. Her support is a bonus.  Writing is therapeutic; you get it out, share, get support, and feel empowered! Write!

Many people who share their story experience a similar shift.
